The cheapest way from Incheon Airport into Seoul is the AREX all-stop train, paid with a transit card: about an hour to Seoul Station for roughly ₩5,000. The AREX Express gets you to Seoul Station in 43 minutes from Terminal 1 (51 from Terminal 2) for ₩13,000 at the station. Airport buses are the easiest choice with big luggage or a hotel far from Seoul Station. Taxis cost the most but take you door to door.
Which one should you take?
| Option | Time to central Seoul | Cost (adult) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| AREX all-stop train | About 59 min (T1) / 66 min (T2) to Seoul Station | About ₩4,750 (T1) / ₩5,350 (T2) with a transit card | Light luggage, saving money, stays along the line (Hongdae, Gongdeok) |
| AREX Express | 43 min (T1) / 51 min (T2), non-stop to Seoul Station | ₩13,000 at the station; usually less on travel booking apps | Stays near Seoul Station, guaranteed seat |
| Airport limousine bus | Usually 60–100 min, depends on traffic | Check the fare on the route board | Big suitcases, hotels in Gangnam, Myeongdong, Jamsil and other districts |
| Taxi | Usually 50–80 min, depends on traffic | Highest; metered fare plus expressway tolls | Groups, late arrivals, lots of bags |
The options, one by one
AREX all-stop train
- Where Follow the "Train" signs to the Airport Railroad station on B1 of Terminal 1, or the Transportation Center of Terminal 2.
- How to pay Tap a T-money or other transit card at the gate, the same as the subway. You can also buy a single-journey card from the machine.
- Stops worth knowing Gimpo Airport, Digital Media City, Hongik University (Hongdae), Gongdeok and Seoul Station, with transfers to the subway.
This is the train most locals take. It is a commuter train with side-facing seats, so it can be crowded at rush hour, but it is cheap and frequent.
AREX Express
- Where Same station as the all-stop train, but a separate ticket gate and platform.
- How to pay You need a reserved-seat ticket: buy it at the AREX counter or ticket machine, or in advance online. A transit card alone will not let you on.
- Good to know It runs non-stop to Seoul Station. AREX added four Express trips a day from 23 October 2026.
Worth it if your hotel is near Seoul Station or you want a guaranteed seat after a long flight. If you are going to Hongdae, the all-stop train gets you there without going into Seoul Station first.
Airport limousine bus
- Where Bus stops are just outside the arrivals floor (1F in Terminal 1, B1 in the Transportation Center of Terminal 2). Each stop number shows the routes and destinations.
- How to pay Buy a ticket at the counter or machine near the exits, or pay on board where the route accepts cards. Check the sign at the stop.
- Good to know The driver loads big suitcases underneath, and many routes stop right outside major hotels.
If you are staying in Gangnam, Jamsil, Myeongdong or near a big hotel, the bus often beats the train because you skip the subway transfers with luggage.
Taxi
- Where Taxi stands are outside arrivals. Use the official stands, not drivers who approach you inside the terminal.
- How to pay Taxis take credit cards and transit cards. Expressway tolls are added to the meter fare.
- Good to know Late-night surcharges apply in Seoul taxis from 22:00 to 04:00. If you want to book ahead and pay with a foreign card, use a taxi app such as K.Ride.
Step by step: your first hour
- Get online first (eSIM or airport SIM counter) so you can use maps.
- Buy a T-money card at a convenience store in arrivals and add cash. You will use it on the train, subway and buses.
- Pick your ride from the table above. If you are unsure, the all-stop train to Seoul Station or Hongdae is the safe default.
- Use Naver Map or KakaoMap for directions from your stop. Google Maps does not give full walking and driving directions in Korea.
FAQ
Can I pay for the AREX with a credit card?
For the Express, yes, when you buy the ticket. For the all-stop train you tap a transit card at the gate; single-journey cards from the machine are an option, and some machines accept cards, but a T-money card is simpler.
Can I use the Seoul Climate Card from the airport?
No. The Climate Card only covers Seoul, and Incheon Airport is outside Seoul. Pay this trip with T-money and start the Climate Card once you are in the city.
What if I land after midnight?
The last trains leave the airport around midnight, so very late arrivals usually need a late-night bus or a taxi. Check the AREX timetable for your terminal before you fly.
Is Gimpo Airport the same?
No. Gimpo is a separate, much closer airport mostly used for domestic and some short international flights. It is on the AREX line and subway lines 5 and 9.
